The Feminist Gamers blog is a dedicated to Gaming, and Feminism, in no particular order. We hope to cover all forms of gaming; consoles and handhelds and computer games, single, multiplayer, and online. We will even examine pen-and-paper roll playing games (like Dungeons &Dragons), and indie board game culture (Settlers of Cataan, anyone?)
PSX was a Sony digital video recorder with fully integrated PlayStation and PlayStation 2 video game consoles. Since it was designed to be a general-function audiovisual device, it was marketed by the main Sony Corporation and was released only in Japan on December 13, 2003. It was the first Sony product to utilize the XrossMediaBar (XMB). The system became widely criticized due to a very high price, and customer interest began decreasing. As a result, the PSX was never released outside Japan.
October 7, 2003 - Sony has at last revealed final pricing and release information on its PSX hardware. The hardware will arrive to Japan this Fall in two forms, the DESR-5000 (160 Gigabyte hard disk) and the DESR-7000 (250 Gigabyte hard disk). The units will come in a variety of colors and be priced respectively at 79,800 yen (approx $718) and 98,000 yen ($882). Outside the different hard disk size, the two models are identical with exception to different colored logos. First announced earlier this year, the PSX is a high-end electronics device designed to run PS2 and PlayStation games, connect to broadband and record both DVDs and television. The unit will also be capable of receiving satellite broadcast reception thanks to an included satellite TV tuner. In addition to the pricing, Sony has provided a closer look at the unit. The front of the unit has a flap at the bottom that opens to reveal a USB port (USB 1.1) as well as slots for two PS2-brand memory cards and a memory stick. Two controller ports along with all the requisite video and audio connections are located on the unit's rear. Inputs include composite, S-Video and stereo audio. Outputs include composite, component, S-Video, stereo audio and optical audio. Also on the rear are connections for Ethernet, tuner reception and power.

From just about day one, the holy grail of the PSP homebrew scene has been PSX emulation, and while much has been accomplished on this front, the spiffiest emulator yet happens to come courtesy of Sony Computer Entertainment Itself. Of course, that emulator entails a pay-per-download scheme, limited catalog and requires a PS3 to make it all work, right? Not so much anymore, thanks to hacker extraordinaire Dark_AleX and his new Custom Firmware 3.02 OE-B, which lets you convert your very own PSX ISOs and run them at full speed on the PSP. OE-A worked as a hack for Sony-released download titles by stripping the DRM, but it sounds like OE-B is the real deal here. Sure looks like those PSP fanboys are going to be having some happy holidays this year. Keep reading to spy an incredibly blurry vid of the hack in action.
